International Women’s Day Celebration

 

On Sunday 10/3/2019, Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated in the celebration commemorating Women’s International Day. The celebration was held by the speaker of the parliamentMohamed al-Halbousi in Al-Rasheed Hotel with the presence of a large number of attendees and the participation of minister of Culture , Mr. Abdul Al-ameer Al-Hamdani along with parliament female members including ( Ms. Hanan Al-Fatlawi and Ms. Haifa’a Al-ameen)   in addition to civil society activists of both sexes , female officers of social police (Officer Lara),some ambassadors, clan elders and journalists. The celebration began with the playing of the national anthem followed by the screening of an exquisite film entitled (This is Me). 

The film has a message conveyed how Iraqi women are strong and resilient and expressed the desire to freedom and to martialize their goals.  Subsequently, Ms. Alaa’a Talibani, the head of Iraqi parliament female members group, kindly delivered a speech welcoming the attendees and talked about Iraqi women’s suffering and their steadfastness despite all circumstances surrounding them and the sacrifices made by Displaced and Izidi women and Iraqi women in general. She also urged on the need that Iraqi women should start to gain their rights by the adoption and the legislation of laws that deemed to be in their interest such as (Combating domestic violence law and the protection of Childhood law).   

She also reaffirmed the necessity of education, especially in rural areas. Then, Mr. Mohamed al-Halbousi, the parliament speaker, kindly delivered a speech to greet the guests and congratulated women in general on the occasion of their day and stressed on the principle of citizenship, through which he valued the steadiness of Iraqi women and that it is of their duty to empower and enhance them in Iraqi society. He affirmed on the media role.

On the advancement of women and urged that all efforts should be coordinated to change women’s social and economic status. Later, Ms. Yara Al-Salim, the World Bank representative, and presented a congratulation to women on the occasion of International Women's Day. Then a film was presented on the success stories of Iraqi women, including women farmers who challenged all their family circumstances and worked to improve their living conditions. The women who fought against the terrorist organization, the woman who lost part of her body and was struggling to complete her course, and then the performance of the ballet  dancers was displayed for the children, and at the end of the ceremony was honoring the women whose success stories appeared in the film by Mr. Mohamed al-Halbousi Speaker of Iraqi Parliament.
