Improve access to justice for survivors of violence and develop leadership skills for civil society organizations

 

Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated in the training workshop held in Erbil for the period 17-20 June 2019 entitled "Improving access to justice for women survivors of violence and developing leadership skills for civil society organizations". At the invitation of the United Nations Women's Commission / United Nations Commission on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women The workshop is part of the project "Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls and Host Communities in Iraq", which is being implemented with the support of the United Nations Women's Fund and funded jointly by the European Trust Fund to respond to the Syrian crisis "Maddad" in partnership with international institutions In the presence of the representative of the United Nations Office Ms. Dina Zorba, and a large number of representatives of Iraqi civil society organizations from various governorates of Iraq. The objectives of the workshop were as follows:

1. Enable participants to design, implement and follow up on effective commitments to combat violence against women.

2. Studying how individuals and organizations transform from stereotyping to change and explore opportunities to respond at different levels to violence against women.

3. Develop awareness that the creation of transformational leadership is a process that must be conducted at a deeper level in the entity and the need to recognize the urgency of the act towards violence against women.

4. Building the capacity of specialists in the field of Iraqi women's rights within the framework of Iraq's international obligations.

5. Increase awareness of the challenges facing women survivors of violence in accessing justice.

6. Capacity building of service providers to enable survivors of violence to receive legal services.

The workshop was opened by welcoming and introducing the participants. After that, a number of topics were discussed, in addition to the objective of the workshop on mental maps, women and the human rights system in

 

The constitution and treaties, legal discrimination against women, various interventions with survivors of violence, psychosocial support, various methods of intervention with survivors of violence, mechanisms of civil society contributions to treaty committees, dynamics of institutional growth, how to write a project proposal. Dissemination of ideas.

 

The workshop was concluded with an evaluation session, during which it highlighted the positive and negative aspects and proposals for developing the work.

It is worth noting that Tammuz is collaborating with other organizations in a research project based on a map of the main patterns and causes of violence against women in Iraq, where the organization documents survivors' stories through interviews and psychosocial support as part of an attempt to reintegrate them into society in transitional justice processes.
