The second workshop of Security Council Resolution 2250 on 27-29 / 6/2019


The second workshop of the Young Leaders Program for the first and second generations was launched in Baghdad on Thursday, 27 - 29/6/2019, on UN Security Council Resolution 2250, adopted by the United Nations in 2015 with the vote and approval of all 15 members. This is the first decision of its kind that gives youth the opportunity to work. To achieve peace and security around the world.

The title of the workshop was "Building the Capacity of Activists for Iraqi Youth on the Foundations and Elements of Professional Advocacy and Building Relations with Related Entities" at the Baghdad Hotel where the Freedom and Peace Organization was established in partnership with Tammuz Social Development Foundation and the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

The workshop was attended by 22 participants from all Iraqi governorates. The first day of the workshop included the following important topics:

1. An identification on advocacy and specialized advocacy.

2-young activists and participation in coordination to implement the specialized advocacy.

3- The development of a plan for advocacy and the distribution of roles and the stages of implementing specialized advocacy.

4- To set the topic, objectives, and outputs. The objectives of this part of the training are integral of the previous training unit through achieving the following:

I: to help the participants in developing achievable and follow able objectives.

 II: the improvement of participants’ skills to develop the campaign’s map.

III: to set the topics and paths and the paths of the specialized advocacy campaign and each according to their priorities.

The second day of the workshop included the following important topics:

1. Develop a plan of action to support resolution 2250.

2. Data components and messages of the defender.

3. Advocacy campaign messages.

4. Writing letters and what they include and how to develop a program to publish and follow up the messages concerned with the role of youth in peace and security.

5. Follow up campaign.

6. What are the campaign follow-up steps for participatory budget issues and local councils.

7. How follow-up and what are the relevant authorities to follow up.

8. Explanations and exercises to implement follow-up mechanisms to achieve the following objectives:

- First: developing the skills of the participants in how to follow the steps to follow up and evaluate the special campaigns.

Second: Developing the skills of the participants in how to organize follow-up campaigns on the issues of participatory budget and local councils and deal with the results.

9. Evaluate the campaign.

11. What is the role of each member of the campaign team for evaluation as the goal is as follows:

- First: How the members of the campaign team contribute to the implementation of the evaluation procedures.

Second, there is a key need for participants to be familiar with the steps of evaluation, team assessment, feedback and evaluation of results.

Third: How the evaluation procedures are handled.

12. Identification of outputs.

The third day was organized by the President of the Organization of Freedom and Peace to remind the objectives of the workshop and that this decision represents one of the sustainable goals of the United Nations SDGs and defines the strategy to be followed to achieve the objectives of Security Council resolution 2250 and through two phases. To define the decision and to form teams to be in the future a committee to dialogue with decision-makers to go out to write the national draft and then work on the campaign of the national plan

It is worth mentioning that the outputs of these workshops will be initiatives regarding the practical application of the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 and its definition. Initial ideas have already been sent by the participants to the Freedom and Peace Organization for the purpose of reviewing them and developing campaigns and ideas for their implementation as initiatives for all Iraqi provinces by them and each according to his governorate.
