Skills of Implementing Second National Plan of Security Council Resolution No.1325

 

On 23-26 Sep 2019, and at the invitation of Baghdad Women Association, with the support Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund and UN Women, Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated in a training workshop on Communications skills, writing reports, follow up, evaluation, and the second national plan to   for Security Council ResolutionNo.1325. The days during which the workshop was held included training on communication skills, how to write periodic and monitoring reports, training on follow up, and evaluation as for the last day, it witnessed the second national plan of the Security Council 1325 as it was reviewed in addition to its articles. 

It’s worth mentioning that the main objective for the national action plan of the resolution 1325 in Iraq is to contribute in building and sustaining peace and security in Iraq through strengthening partnerships with civil society and achieving social Justice in all spheres of life.

The special objective of the plan is:

-         Increasing active and proportional participation in decision making centers on the local and national levels and in all reconciliation committees and peacebuilding negotiations.

-          The adoption of a women’s quota in the executive power as a positive measure to allow women to practice their role in decision making process.

-         Harmonizing the national legislations with standards and international humanitarian mechanisms for women including the Security Council resolution 1325 and the cancellation or the amendment of texts and laws that violate women’s rights and the enactment of legislations that protect them and enhance their positon.

-         Empowering women and enhancing their capacities through an approach based on human rights.

-         The integration of Gender concept in all policies and operations related to conflict prevention, disputes settlements, and peacebuilding in Iraq.

-         To contribute to eliminate   violence against women and the provision of safe shelters for the victims.

As for strategic objectives, they can be described as follows:

-         To develop mechanisms to ensure a fair proportional representation of women and a full participation for them in all state’s powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary decision making centers on both local and national levels.

-         To ensure a fair proportional representation and full participation for women in all reconciliation committees and peacebuilding negotiations, disputes settlements and the councils of achieving civil peace.
