Workshop to announce formation of Young and the launch of “Safe Family” Campaign

Tammuz Organization for Social Development announced the launch of “For a safe family” campaign, which is implemented in four Governorates (Baghdad, Kirkuk, Saladin, & Basra) and was planned for in July 2019 during a workshop held in Erbil. The reason behind the campaign was to push through a resolution against domestic violence, the workshop was held with the support of the PAX Dutch Organization and the implementation of Al-Amal Association and “Iraqi Women’s Network”.

Baghdad team undertaken the legal side of the campaign and to stress on decision makers to accelerate the passing of the law through the current parliamentary cycle, despite   planning, more than once, to conduct a press conference in order announce the launch of the campaign once at Council of representatives and one another at the national syndicate of Journalist defence, the

Launch could not be possible for substantive and personal reasons.

The main objective of the workshop can be summarized in the formation of a feminist group that support the Iraqi Women’s network. Forming this group is one of the outputs of a meeting was held in Erbil on 4 December 2019, which was an evaluative meeting for the project of PAX the most important axes were summarized as follows:

-      To attract a group of young females and working on empowering them in the most prominent women’s related issues according to topics specified by the group itself and the involvement of the group in planning for activities as well.

-      To contain this group by a team of young female activists who work on the coordination of a group of trainings and activities in collaboration with our colleagues in the Iraqi women’s network who have a long experience in the field of women’s issues defence.

To involve these young women within the team of Baghdad of “For a safe family Campaign”, subsequently they would be familiar with how to conduct an advocative and supportive campaign through there will be pressure on decision makers.

-this group would be as a preparation stop for the female activists as a very important issues was detected and that was a knowledge gap between the new young females and the others who have longer experience , the most important outputs of the workshop can be summarized as follows:

2- Announcing the founding of the women's youth group to support the network.

3- Introduce drafts of the family violence law.

4- Discussing objections to the law.

5- Announcing the launching of a campaign for a safe family, introducing it and planning future activities.

6- Plan the activities of the youth women's group that supports the network.
