Visit to the Dutch Parliament

Visit to the Dutch Parliament

On 28/1/2020, Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated within a delegation composed of some Iraqi Young people of various Iraqi Governorates, to visit the Dutch Parliament, the purpose of the visit was to convey a deep picture on the violations committed by governmental bodies and illegal bodies against  protestors during the public demonstrations in Iraq, and to convey our testimony as civil activists who are actively involved and submit recommendations to the  International Society to press on the Iraqi Government to stop those evaluations and asking them to have a more serious attitude regarding  sacrifices  made by the Iraqi People during their peaceful revolution to claim their legal rights.

The visit witnessed some interventions made by the participants, one of which was made by our representative and was about substantive conditions that led to the emergence of this uprising with all this insistence that persisted for three months   , those conditions were represented by a continuous negligence by the government, over the past 16 years, for the basic human rights that save the human dignity such as the lack of services, the spread of unemployment among the young people ,corruption that spread in all parts of the state , the absence of law authority ,the deterioration of educational and health sections status along to other conditions.

All those demands were coped by the government with indifference and the lack to develop radical solutions, moreover violence were used against them like sprinkling students with hot water and terrorizing them.

Women’s participation  have had a special symbolism that reflected on graffiti posters , as they transformed into a symbol of challenge and power along to their qualitative attendance, which grabbed the attention of Public opinion and International Society.

Such participation had the importance of changing the stereotyped image on women.

As women now considered as revolutionaries, paramedics, logistic supporters, who have been demanding for their taken rights challenging social traditions and customs and all forms of constraints imposed on them, also Men’s perspective on Iraqi women has been changed for the steadiness and firmness they proven and their persistence to participate despite all difficulties, which reflected on the rebels’ shouts.

Such participation was shocking for the governmental bodies, as women were victims of arbitrary arrests and detentions, and female students of schools and universities were victims of beatings.

At the end of the meeting, a very important issue was addressed, which was on the international intervention to press on the Iraqi government and to announce an explicit position on the Iraqi events, a position that came late and disproportionate to sacrifices and violations, that could have had raised a more daring position by the international community if it had happened in another state.  Hence, it was affirmed to accelerate taking more serious positions concerning what’s been happening in Iraq and in a way that befits the Iraqi revolution, which has risen to universality.
