Second Workshop to Empower Female Journalists

 

In the presence of 13 trainees from all over Iraq, Tammuz organization for social development, and in cooperation with the Iraqi Syndicate for Journalists, held the second workshop on empowering Iraqi female journalists, the workshop lasted for four days and took place in the Al-Sindbad Palace Hotel-Baghdad.

The opening was with a welcoming speech by the head of the syndicate Yasir Al-Salem assuring on the importance of the role played by Iraqi Female journalists and the need to improve the journalistic style and tools, he also mentioned the actual quest of the syndicate to upgrade journalism in Iraq adding that they had been working on creating a cyber platform by which they can support Female journalists and give them the opportunity to post their journalistic content in various fields with placing emphasis on social, human and political topics. And assured that the syndicate would follow up on the journalists and how far their levels would get improved during the project period. 

Day 1: was initiated with the trainer Elham Makki, who gave a lecture on Gender as a concept, the roles played gender, the authority of media and its importance in forming social values, analyzing gender in Media and gender is continuously used in misappropriating way whether through explicit messages or through implied agenda which the more dangerous on recipients and has a bad influence on society.

As for Day2, was initiated by our colleague Enas Jabbar, Project Coordinator, who made a presentation on Tammuz Organization for Social Development, Co-project organization, most important causes the organization had and has the interest to work on regarding social development besides adopting defending human rights and working on making real differences in society as one of the active organization in Iraq.

Then, A journalist named Doluvan Berwari gave training for two days during which he explained specialized concepts on using journalistic tools in a modern and proper way, besides the structure and the elements of the narrative story, investigative reports, how to distinguish story and news and how to discreetly build such reports.

On Day2 Berwari continued lecturing on topics related to specializing in writing journalistic stories and the way to display them, their importance, and the difference between normal journalistic story and news story, he concluded his training by tutoring female participants on how to write news story which is little used in the world of journalism compared to other fields.

The Last Day, which was the fourth, was with the training of a journalist named Munaf Ghanim, a specialist in social media proper posting mechanism, his lectures was dedicated to how to properly post, summarize information to the shortest possible text, how to display media content and forwarding it to the audience interested in such content.

At the conclusion of the workshop, thanks were extended to the trainers who shared their expertise with participants and thanking the participants for their active and distinguished participation during the workshop days, they distributed certificates of participation to them wishing them good luck in their journalistic career.
