The world is swept by a storm called the Corona pandemic, which hit millions around the world and has taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. no country escaped this storm, including Iraq, which suffered from many political and security issues and terrorist attacks, to add this pandemic a major economic crisis due to the decline in global demand for oil and a significant decrease in prices, which caused an increase in the unemployment rate because of the total lockdown and the difficulty of movement among, cities and governorates. this sudden deterioration had a price that was paid by the poor classes and also had an effect that paralyzed Market movement managed by individuals with daily incomes and earnings from street vendors, stall owners, porters, temporary workers, owners of transport wheels and others, in that light, Tammuz Organization for Social Development launched a campaign to prevent this pandemic, in cooperation with the network of legal clinics, where the organization’s staff started on 23 - 29 September 2020 by working as a beehive to provide health supplies after they arrived at the organization's headquarters For all members to pack them and divide them into portions that were packed in plastic bags, which included sanitary materials, masks, gloves, alcohol disinfectants and introductory folders that included instructions on the symptoms of the Covid 19 epidemic and how to prevent it.
Colleagues also began distributing the first meal in Tahrir Square on Thursday, September 24, 2020, transporting for a relatively long distance, carrying boxes because of the roads were cut there. At the beginning of the health campaign, our colleagues targeted the police personnel surrounding the square to protect it, as well as the earners and the daily occupants of street vendors and truck drivers the small vehicles (tik-tuks), passers-by, daily incomers, and beggars who roam the streets, the place of distribution extended from Al-Nasr Square to Al-Khilani Square in Al-Sinak area.
And over the other days of the campaign, the largest diversified market in Iraq was targeted, which is the Shorja Market, which is frequented by many shoppers from various governorates of Iraq and the general public, and it is abundant in earnings, people with limited incomes, owners of manual transport vehicles, porters, street vendors and owners of small transport vehicles (tuk-tuk and satutta).
The campaign continued for all individuals without distinction based on the geography of the Baghdad region with the diversity of its social and spatial fabric through the diversity of the places of worship that are adjacent to each other, where the Church of the Virgin Mary faces the Mosque of the Caliphs and adjacent to them is the shrine of Hussein Ibn Rouh and the names of its regions show this diversity through its names from the last century to the present day Like
Aked Al-nassara distr or (Christians District) Aked Al-yahood (The jews district) names that have a clear indication to that coexistence prevailed between the very old components of Iraqi society and a situation where the other accepts an established characteristic among the people of the people, and this also applies to the coexisting national components there where the interests of work and coexistence unite them in a homeland called Iraq.
And we found cooperation from the traffic police and the owners of some shops so that the Tammuz organization staff began to distribute health materials to passers-by and the groups previously mentioned above, and we gave priority to the elderly, women, porters, and deserving and vulnerable groups with an explanation to them of what is in the package with the importance of the necessary prevention from this epidemic by using face masks, disinfectants and gloves, especially in crowded areas, and the campaign continued until Tuesday, 9/29/2020
The last stop was in the industrial district near the Karrada court, and during the campaign, we targeted workers, car repair shops, daily-earners, and street vendors, and during the wanderings of our colleagues, everyone cooperated with them and welcomed them. Many thanks were given to the organization and the awareness campaign that it carries out for the benefit of the world. It should be noted that the organization had other activities and campaigns at earlier times for health awareness and the seriousness of this pandemic.
