Symposium on the phenomenon of human trafficking

Symposium on the phenomenon of human trafficking

On 12/15/2020, Tammuz Organization for Social Development in Dhi Qar Governorate took part in the symposium held by the Central Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, Dhi Qar Branch, which was held in the Human Rights Office, Dhi Qar Branch, with the participation of government and security departments and civil society organizations in the governorate.

At the beginning of the seminar, Mrs. Aseel Al-Shammari, a representative of the governor and the Central Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, Dhi Qar branch, welcomed the participants and presented some reports related to this dangerous phenomenon based on enhanced reports from security agencies and community police besides cases of monitoring from civil society organizations. Discussion and opinions of the attendees were discussed. Regarding this phenomenon, the representative of our organization presented during the meeting a proposal to open a research center at Dhi Qar University that specializes in this aspect and to present studies and research from specialists in the social and psychological field. Organizations that monitor these cases can also be involved in cooperation with the security authorities, especially the community police.

At the end of the symposium, some observations were agreed upon as recommendations, the most important of which are:

-1 Opening a research center at Dhi Qar University on this phenomenon and the social phenomena that are within these cases.

- 2Holding workshops and seminars for organizations and security agencies to educate and raise awareness.

-3Giving a role to parents, clerics, and social figures to help and actively involve them.

- 4The media role and activation through preparing its radio and visual programs.
