Under the slogan “Elections and Human Rights”

 

On Monday, 23 August, in Baghdad, Tammuz organization took part in a workshop named “Elections and Human Rights” organized by Al-Amal society and supported by Human Rights Office with the Of United Nations Office which is subordinate to United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, the participants were young persons of both sexes from all over Iraq.

The reason behind establishing this workshop was to increase the participants’ information and empower them to gain the needed in Human Rights Monitoring and to apply this information and their application in practice.

During the workshop, several topics were discussed, including the definition of basic concepts of human rights, what are the legal frameworks, and how to verify human rights breaches in many fields, besides the basics of human rights monitoring and linking them to breaches that happened during the election period in particular.

The workshop was penetrated with several practical exercises as the trainer divided the participants into several groups, each one representing a specific geographic spot, and asked them to create a map according to the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
