Tammuz organization attends imitation procedure of counting and sorting devices


Upon receiving an invitation from the Independent High Electoral Commission, Tammuz Organization for Social Development attended imitated polling day sessions by testing counting, sorting, and verification devices and that was on Monday, August 23, 2021, in Baghdad, Anbar and Nasiriya.


Representatives of the organization attended the commission's office in Baghdad and in separate centers in Anbar Governorate, besides the city of Nasiriya, and the commission’s team in many governorate centers presented the details of the electoral process on the ground in the presence of polling stations employees, agents of political entities and civil society organizations, in the attendance of international observers and representatives of the United Nations.


The test simulations included an updated fingerprint sensor and connected with wires to the ballot box, both of which are equipped with a battery that operates for several hours in case of a power outage, and then the employee in charge asks the voter to show an ID card other than their voter’s card to verify their identity, followed by checking their fingerprint to pick the ballot paper and complete The usual voting procedure then places it in the ballot box, which automatically draws it in.


The Commission's personnel were also discerning to describe how to deal with cases of invalid electoral papers and how the electoral ballot box would not accept them and automatically re-exit them with a red stamp and considered as an invalid paper.

The simulation process took place smoothly and steadily, and there were no significant obstacles registered, and the organizers of this simulation expressed cooperation with all attendees by replying to all the inquiries and questions raised.

The Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed that this exercise will be performed again several times to certify the safety and accuracy of the work of the electronic devices used in the electoral process and to avoid all obstacles that may appear on polling day.
