Dialogue session with the Chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission

 

On Monday, April 18, 2022, in Baghdad, Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated in a dialogue session organized by the Baghdad Center for Public Policies to talk about the commission’s performance in the October 2021 elections.

The session was attended by Members of local monitoring networks and civil society organizations, as well as male and journalists attended the session. The session was opened by Judge Jalil Adnan, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, with a speech. He confirmed that the Commission succeeded in crossing the electoral process to safety despite all the circumstances and challenges that faced its work.

After that, the monitoring networks opened the door for interventions to give their comments on the Commission’s procedures in the previous elections, where the representative of the Tammuz Organization, the colleague Hussein Mahmoud, spoke about not allowing observers to bring phones to the polling stations, which caused confusion for us in communicating with our network of observers. In addition, a network of observers monitored In July, several verification devices stopped on polling day despite the Commission's assurances of the safety of all devices before the elections.

After completing the interventions and answering all inquiries, rumor, and misleading their impact on the work of the Commission and how to confront it was addressed.

In conclusion, Judge Jalil Adnan promised that there would be periodic meetings with the monitoring networks to cooperate more and benefit from their proposals to improve the work of the Commission.
