Dhi Qar: Workshop on extractive industries

Tammuz Organization took part in a workshop to assess national priorities in achieving transparency on Sunday, June 19, 2022 in Nasiriyah.

Heads of governorate departments, several unions, and civil society organizations representatives attended the workshop, as it began by giving a recap of Transparency Initiative reports and its position in opposing corruption in the extractive industries sector.

The focus of discussion also was the petrodollar, the needs of Dhi Qar Governorate, national priorities, and the necessity of diagnosing and developing solutions for them, besides the environmental impact of extractive industries operations and social benefits.

After the workshop, an agreement was reached on the essential of establishing a consultative council that includes representatives from the governorate, oil companies, unions, and civil society organizations to find priorities and a translucent database to specify the petrodollar funds and the exchange mechanism.
